This year's annual wine tour with hosts Tony and Deborah Aspler takes us to France's Rhone Valley. The first three days will focus on the Northern Rhone from our base in Lyon. Lyon is renowned for its gastronomy and is widely acknowledged (even by Parisians) to be the food capital of France, if not Europe. The city is fames as much for for its excellent family-run eateries known as bouchons as for its Michelin-starred restaurants established by local legendary chefs such as Paul Bocuse.
The final four days of the tour will be spent in the Southern Rhone Valley where our base will be Avignon- one of the most fascinating cities in the South of France and a perfect launching point to explore the many famous AOC's of the Southern Rhone including Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Lirac, Tavel and of course Chateauneuf-du-Pape. This particular corner of the country is as famous for its fascinating history as it is for its natural beauty (regularly featured in the works of Cezanne, Van Gogh and Picasso). The scenic hilltop villages of the Luberon, cosmopolitan Aix-en-Provence and pretty Saint-Remy-de-Provence are all within an easy days travel.
