Celebrate New Year's 2017 in Vienna

Are you one of the millions of classical music lovers who have dreamt of attending the New Year’s concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein? Well this is the year you can make that dream come true. Pauwels Travel Bureau together with our favorite on location supplier in Vienna are offering a limited number of tickets to be part of the celebrations. While not an escorted tour from Canada, our representative will arrange to meet you at Vienna airport, and make you part of his international delegation. 

Program highlights include the Preview Concert of the New Year’s Day Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic under the fiery baton of Gustavo Dudamel in this historic Viennese concert hall, Johann Strauss’s Opera "Die Fledermaus" (The Bat) at the Vienna State Opera and Beethoven's 9th Symphony at the magnificent Art Nouveau Konzerthaus. To top it off, you have the option to attend the New Year’s Eve Ball at the Imperial Palace on December 31st.

ITINERARY

Day 1 - Thursday, December 29:

Morning arrival in Vienna where you will be met by our English speaking tour guide who will welcome you as you exit the customs area at the airport and accompany you during the transfer from the airport to the hotel. We suggest that you have lunch on your own before or after checking into your hotel, the Austria Trend Hotel Europa, a 4-star hotel in the centre of Vienna on Kaerntnerstrasse, the pedestrian boulevard from the Vienna State Opera to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Welcome Reception and talk by a member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Welcome dinner at the famous restaurant and hotel Sacher. Overnight in Vienna (1).

Day 2 - Friday, December 30:

After breakfast we will enjoy the New Year’s Concert (full concert preview) with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the Golden Hall of the Musikverein under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel, the charismatic conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. It is the same concert that 50 million people in 90 countries around the world will be watching on TV on January 1, 2017. It will be Maestro Dudamel’s first New Year’s Concert with the Vienna Philharmonic. He is the youngest conductor ever to be invited. You can be looking forward to a sparkling and energetic New Year’s Concert 2017. 

In the afternoon enjoy a guided walking tour of Vienna with an English-speaking local guide. The tour starts with a visit of the Habsburg’s greatest legacies, the Schatzkammer (treasury), containing not only the crown jewels of the emperors, but also one of Europe’s finest collections of “objets d’art”, imperial garments  and religious items. You will also see the Museums of Fine Arts and Natural History (picture on right) and the Postal Savings Bank.

Optional Activities in the afternoon and evening:
a) Take a 90-minute Viennese Waltz class in the afternoon at Vienna’s premier dance studio to prepare you confidently for the New Year’s Ball (Le Grand Bal) in the Imperial Palace.
b) Optional performance at the Vienna State Opera, details to be announced.

No group dinner this evening. Overnight in Vienna (2).

Day 3 - Saturday, December 31:

Breakfast at the hotel followed by free time to explore Vienna on your own. We suggest a visit to Schoebrunn Palace, the summer residence of the Hapsburg family. This evening you will attend the traditional New Year’s concert  performance of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Academy of Song at the Grand Hall of the  Vienna Konzerthaus an impressive Art Nouveu Building.

The performance starts at 7  pm and ends at approximated 9 pm.  The program: Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in D-minor, Opus 125.  Tickets in first category will be provided. After the concert you will  enjoy an amazing New Year’s Gala Dinner at the Vienna Hotel Marriott one of the premier hotels of Vienna. You will experience an event with lots of entertainment and several buffets with delicious specialties to choose from, accompanied by local musicians. 

Optional event a): New Year’s Ball (Le Grand Bal) at the state rooms of the Vienna Imperial Palace after the concert of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra above: Celebrate New Year’s Eve, brimming with fun and laughter, immerse yourself in Vienna’s charming ball tradition from approx. 9:30 pm until 3:30 am. This does not include dinner but a snack buffet around midnight. It is a formal event, with long ball gowns, tuxedos, tails or gala uniforms Supplement for Imperial Ball instead of Marriott dinner CAD $ 425.00 (www.hofburgsilvesterball.com). 

Optional event b) New Year’s Ball (Le Grand Bal) at the state rooms of the Vienna Imperial Palace including dinner starts before 7:00 pm with a welcome glass of sparkling wine in the Foyer of the Imperial Palace (Hofburg), followed be a four course dinner with red or white wine, mineral water and a glass of champagne at midnight.  (Option b) does not include a ticket to for Beethoven’s 9th Symphony at the Konzerthaus. The supplement for this event is CAD $600.00 If you prefer informal fun, all the Old city is at stage with dancing in the streets, stalls with local food and drinks and, of course, fireworks. This will be a huge party with the Pummerin Bell of St. Stephen’s Cathedral ringing in the New Year. St. Stephen’s Cathedral Vienna City Hall.

Day 4 - Sunday, January 01: Happy New Year 2017!

After breakfast at the hotel you will have a full day at leisure for individual sightseeing or relaxation. Lunch will be on your own. In the Evening enjoy a performance of Johann Strauss’s operetta “Die Fledermaus” (the Bat) at the Vienna State Opera (tickets in first category provided). Cast to be determined. In "The Bat" the Waltz King created a masterpiece in the genre of operetta that has never been transcended since. It features brilliant music combined with a bitingly comic plot. Dinner on your own. Overnight in Vienna (4).

Day 5 - Monday, January 02:

Breakfast at hotel followed by a guided tour of the Museum of fine Arts built in 1891 near the Imperial Palace to house the extensive collections of the imperial family. With its vast array of old masters and the largest Bruegel collection in the world. Balance of the day free. Overnight in Vienna (5).

Day 6 - Tuesday, January 03:

Breakfast at the hotel followed by a transfer to the airport.
