ITINERARY

Day 1 - Friday, May 15: Buffalo to NYC

Meet at Buffalo train station where we will board the 8:55 am Amtrak train to New York City.  Arrive at Penn Station New York City at approximately 6:00 pm where we make the short transfer to our centrally located hotel and home for the next 4 nights, Hyatt Time Square (or similar).

A quick check in before heading to dinner and a chance to see the lights of Time Square.  



Day 2 - Saturday, May 16: New York

Today we will make full use of our hop on-hop off New York City bus pass. Sights will include; a drive down Fifth Avenue, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, stop at Rockefeller Centre, Times Square, Grand Central Station, Garment District, a short walk along the High Line (which is a very unique park built on an abandoned elevated railway & one of the most popular attractions in New York), Chelsea Market (a beautiful food market in an old Nabisco factory directly under the High Line and home to the Food Network), Greenwich Village, SoHo, Little Italy & Chinatown.  After an uninterrupted tour of the main loops you are free to enjoy additional routes or hop off at a spot for some individual sightseeing, perhaps a stroll past the Dakota Building, and into Central Park a photo stop at Strawberry Field or the Bethesda Fountain, a visit to one of Manhattans fabulous museums, a Mets or Yankees game, a Broadway show, Jazz at the Lincoln or a leisurely dinner in one of New York’s famous eateries.  You are in the city that never sleeps. Enjoy.

Day 3 - Sunday, May 17: New York

At 10:00 am we meet in the lobby to take the subway to Battery Park and the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.  On arrival at the ferry terminal you will enjoy a ride on the ferry that provides 20 million people each year with a service between Manhattan and Staten Island. During the ferry crossing you will enjoy some of the best views of Lower Manhattan as well as a perfect view of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.  Make sure you have your cameras ready!  After returning to Whitehall Street terminal in Manhattan we will walk past the Financial District. Highlights include Wall Street, the Federal Hall National Monument which marks the place where in 1789 George Washington was sworn in as President, Trinity Church, one of the nation’s oldest Anglican parishes, the New York Stock Exchange, and the famous bronze bull.  The walk will end at Ground Zero with time for lunch in one of the many restaurants in the area.  Following lunch you have a group visit to the 911 Memorial Museum, the 110,000 square feet of exhibition space is located in the heart of the World Trade Centre site around 70 feet below ground; numerous exhibits feature photographs, video, audio and recorded testimonies connected to September 11th 2001.  At a designated time we will meet to take the subway uptown to Times Square.  Balance of the evening at your leisure.  For those interested, there will be an optional evening cooking class available from 6:30pm-10:30pm at the ICC (formerly the French Institute). Approximate cost is $120 USD per person.

Day 4 - Monday, May 18: New York

Eat light this morning.  Following some free time we will transfer by subway to Greenwich Village where we will enjoy a food tour of NYC’s most delicious food-centric area & visit the famous Washington Square Park!   Following the tour you are free to indulge in a little retail therapy or continue sightseeing at your own pace.  In the early evening we meet again to head to our farewell BIG APPLE dinner at one of Manhattans many fine restaurants.

Day 5 - Tuesday, May 19: Depart for Buffalo

Morning transfer to Penn station for our return trip to Buffalo.
