ITINERARY

Day 1 - Sunday, September 24:

Evening departure from Toronto International Airport, with Alitalia Airlines. Dinner and light breakfast will be served on board.

Day 2 - Monday, September 25:

Early afternoon arrival in Rome, with an immediate transfer to your hotel, which will be our home for the next eight nights. This hotel is perfectly located in the historical centre of the “Eternal City”, only a few steps from famous monuments such as the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Quirinal Palace and from the main shopping districts of; Via Veneto, Via dei Condotti, as well as the less fancy Via Nazionale. After arriving at the hotel, we will check-in, and drop off our bags before meeting our guide Fausta for a late-afternoon walking tour to get acquainted with the neighborhood. We will be introduced to the Piazza di Spanga, the Pantheon, & Fontana di Trevi. Tonight we will enjoy a welcome dinner in a local trattoria/restaurante.

Day 3 - Tuesday, September 26:

Morning food tour with our local expert Fausta who will guide us to the several of the most popular local shops and food markets of the trendy Campo dei Fiori and Trastevere neighborhoods.  Free time following the tour for shopping, or lunch if you are still hungry.  The afternoon will feature the Piazza Venezia, The Roman Forum, & the Colosseum. Balance of the day free to enjoy on your own.

Day 4 - Wednesday, September 27:

This morning is dedicated to Vatican City.  Highlights include a guided visit of the Vatican museum with its many works of art including the Sistine Chapel as well as St. Peter’s. A delicious lunch of local specialties served on a beautiful terrace awaits us, following the tour and not far from the Basilica. The remainder of the day is yours to explore on your own. May we suggest a visit to Castel Sant Angelo.

Day 5 - Thursday, September 28:

Early morning departure for Pompeii, here we will visit the lost city that was destroyed by volcanic ash, and pumice due to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Today the well preserved ruins are one of the world’s most fascinating archaeological sites to see.  Following the tour, we will enjoy a traditional Napolese pizza lunch, before driving on to Naples.  Upon arriving we will visit the National Archeological Museum, where you will see many preserved items from the Pompeii ruins, and if time permitting a panoramic tour of Naples before making our way back to Rome in the late evening.

Day 6 - Friday, September 29:

Morning free to do as you please.  This afternoon begins with a delicious pasta lunch, followed by dessert on the road during our second food tour of the trip to experience the delicious SWEET flavors of Rome. Fresh, handmade ice cream anyone? Along the way, our guide will share insider tips on Italian cuisine and introduce you to local food specialties, immersing you in Rome’s rich culinary traditions. In between each scrumptious tasting, you’ll get a glimpse into the history, culture, and architecture that define the Eternal City.  The rest of the day is free to enjoy as you would like.

Day 7 - Saturday, September 30:

Early morning departure for a full-day guided excursion with Fausta to the little town of Tivoli, situated in the foothills of the Apennine Mountains. Visits to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: first, the impressive ruins of Hadrian’s Villa, an elaborate residence built in the 2nd century AD for Emperor Hadrian, allegedly a connoisseur of architecture and art and second, the fabulous Villa d’Este and its exquisite terraced gardens.  Enjoy lunch on your own. Today also marks the last day of Tivoli’s Grape Harvest Festival; Sagra del Pizzutello!  Hopefully we will be able to take in some of the festivities, before heading back to Rome.

Day 8 - Sunday, October 01:

A full day to pursue individual interests which may include, shopping on the Via Veneto, a visit to Villa Borghese, climbing the Victor Emmanuele Building, venturing outside of the city to visit Cine Citta Studios, the ancient site of Ostia, or the Papal summer residence Castel Gandolfo (advanced reservations recommended and in some cases mandatory), or maybe hop on a train to go and explore Florence?!  Be as relaxed or busy as you like because tomorrow we have a late start to the day!

Day 9 - Monday, October 02:

Leisurely morning and afternoon before meeting for our hands-on cooking class and five course dinner. We’ll start by preparing our meal in an exclusive location, in the heart of the Eternal City. We’ll make three different kinds of pasta from scratch, and prepare two other dishes under the guidance of our personal chef in order to produce a full meal. At the end of the course, we’ll enjoy the dishes we just created, accompanied by the perfect wine our chef has selected to complement our dinner. Real food, pure indulgence. In this way, you become not a tourist, but a true traveler immersed in authentic Roman culture.

Day 10 - Tuesday, October 03:

After breakfast, transfer to Rome’s Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport and return flight to Toronto, with Alitalia Airlines. Arrival around 7PM.
